It’s hot in Texas, I know, but try to avoid sweating for 48 hours after your wax. Bacteria and sweat can cause little pimple-like bumps called folliculitis, and we don’t want those!
I always tell clients, “care for your freshly waxed skin as if it were a wound”. It is imperative that the waxed area remain bacteria-free and not exposed to friction or sweating.
You can take a cool shower as soon as you return home, but to avoid bacteria on your freshly waxed skin, avoid hot tubs, bathtubs, pools, lakes, and yes, even Barton Springs and other swimming holes.
The 48 hours post-waxing is the perfect time for movie watching, napping, and relaxing. Because you are not supposed to sweat or work out, take this time to relax, enjoy brunch with a friend, meditate, and take it easy.
Because you’ll be focused on caring for your skin, you will definitely want to avoid touching or scratching the skin after a wax.
You will want to avoid applying anything to the freshly waxed area that wasn’t specifically suggested by Rosie. Many non-approved products can cause irritation or inflammation to the area. Rosie will suggest products that are created specifically for use after waxing, and that are cooling and healing.
To soothe and protect the skin, you can apply either Neosporin cream, witch hazel, Rosie’s tea tree ointment, or 100% aloe (without alcohol) to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment. Always wash your hands before applying any product.
One more way to protect the skin is to put clean sheets on the bed and sleep without underwear. You will also want to use a clean bath towel, and use a body wash (like Fur Body Wash that is specifically formulated for sensitive and waxed skin) instead of bar soap that can harbor bacteria. Fur body wash is available for purchase at your waxing appointment.
To prevent ingrown hairs - starting four days after your wax and then continuing three times a week, exfoliate the areas we waxed, using an exfoliating glove, mitt, scrub, or one of the Fur brand chemical exfoliants available for purchase at Rosie’s Beauty Lounge.
Never use random lotions or oils on an area that has been waxed, unless it is one that has been formulated specifically for skin that has been waxed. I love, recommend, use, and sell Fur Oil which gently softens hair and clear pores for fewer ingrowns and healthier skin.
Skin is much more sensitive to the sun for 48 hours after a wax. You will want to protect your freshly waxed skin from the sun’s rays. Spray tans and tanning lotions/oils can irritate the skin and can also create blotchiness and an uneven tone.
