Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Rosie at info@rosiesbeautylounge.com if your question isn’t answered below.
Yes! You can definitely get a bikini wax while you’re on your period. You’ll just need to wear a clean tampon or a menstrual cup to your appointment. If you’re using a tampon, make sure the string is tucked in or cut short to avoid any wax bits getting stuck to it.
For optimal results, waxing every 4-6 weeks is recommended. Over time, if you come in monthly or every 6 weeks, you’ll begin to see your hair come in sparser and finer, and your waxes will be more comfortable, too!
You’ll want to wear loose fitting clothing to your waxing appointments. To protect your freshly waxed skin, please avoid wearing thong underwear or undergarments with lace. You’ll also need to avoid awearing yoga pants, tight shorts, or skinny jeans. Sundresses, palazzo pants, loose shorts, or sweatpants are your best bet for comfort and will help prevent any irritation post-wax.
Each client has a pain tolerance that is individual to them. Depending on the service, they may be some discomfort, especially for first time bikini client whose hair is dense and thick. However, taking an Advil 30-45 minutes before your treatment can help minimize pain and inflammation.
Getting your underarm, lip, or chin waxed takes a few minutes - your bikini area can be a longer process. Generally a bikini wax can take between 15-25 minutes but can vary for each person. A leg or arm wax can take up to 40 minutes.
There is no question that shaving is less painful than waxing, but it doesn’t deliver the same results as a wax. Shaving simply removes the shaft of the hair, but the roots will still be visible. Waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle, including the root. This will result in a much smoother appearance. There is also the issue of shaving causing embarrassing bumps or ingrown hairs, that could actually lead to scars. And lastly, shaving just doesn’t last as long!
My sweet mother Sue, used to say that you get what you pay for. When it comes to waxing services, this is almost always the case.
The cost of a waxing service is affected by many variables. The best waxes and waxing supplies, safety and sanitation supplies on the market are the costliest.
Chain waxing factories book shorter services so they are able to crank out the clients, and this can lead to feeling rushed, and like you are on a waxing assembly line.
At Rosie’s, more time is allotted for every waxing service, so we can make sure you are comfortable, any concerns are addressed, we get to chat and catch up, you’ll feel seen and respected.
Solo waxing providers are generally more expensive, due to studio and supply costs, insurance, booking site and website costs, taxes, insurance, licenses, and continuing education.
It is extremely important to me that I use the very best waxes and skin care products available. I would never skimp on products because I love my clients and they deserve the best.
Waxing results will last longer than shaving but everyone’s hair grows back differently. In general, hair will not grow back in for about 3 weeks, although in some cases it can start growing back within a week and a half.
Ingrown hairs can pop up for several reasons. A few examples are sweat/oils/bacteria getting into the follicle, synthetic materials (such as lace, spandex, nylon), friction, dead skin, dry skin, not following proper aftercare. At your waxing appointment, Rosie will go over proper aftercare and will suggest products to prevent and treat ingrowns.
Adopting a consistent routine of exfoliating and moisturizing is critical for best results after leg waxing. If the skin is and dry and dehydrated, hair breakage may occur, particularly in larger areas where larger wax strips are used. Rosie will go over aftercare instructions at your appointment. For best results, you’ll want to do all you can to ensure your legs are moisturized and exfoliated properly.
With leg waxing, it may take a few consecutive months of waxing to begin to see smooth results.
You’ll definitely want to avoid shaving between waxes! Shaving throws off your hair growth pattern meaning we would have to start from square one. In addition, shaving cuts the hair at a very sharp angle making the wax less likely to grab onto the hair. Waxed hair is much easier to wax as it has grown back with feather-like softness.
Before booking an appointment, please email info@rosiesbeautylounge.com if you are using or taking any of the following, as you may not be able to receive a wax, due to possible potential skin reactions. The list of contraindications is not limited to the ones listed below, so please reach out if you have a question about something you’re using, and if it would still be safe to wax. Many times, I refer clients to their dermatologists to get their “ok” before performing any service that could compromise the health of the skin.
It is not safe to wax areas with broken skin, rashes, psoriasis or eczema, skin tags, or warts.
For clients with Herpes, if you do not have an active outbreak, you can be waxed. However, waxing can trigger an outbreak in a person who already has the virus, even if it is dormant. If you have an active outbreak, you may not be waxed as it may cause spreading to other areas.
Typically most irritation subsides within 24-48 hours. Breakouts can occur if the skin is not kept clean and dry following your wax appointment. To ensure the least risk of breakout, avoid working out/ sweating/intimate relations, and also avoid applying any lotions, powders, or perfumes to the area for 48 hours. Most reactions are caused by sweating after a waxing service. You’ll want to take cool showers, and wear loose clothing for a minimum of 24 hours. If irritation persists, you can apply PURE aloe vera gel (alcohol free) or a 1% hydrocortisone cream. Please feel free to email Rosie with any questions or concerns.
A hive-like reaction after waxing is called a histamine reaction and is completely normal. Clients often take an antihistamine (Zyrtec, Allegra, Benadryl), when this occurs. Histamine reactions are more common during high-pollen count days (Cedar season in Austin, for example).
Yes, you can absolutely get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy! Things are more sensitive and you might have a little “pinprick bleeding”, but it’s perfectly okay to get waxed.
We will use a wedge shaped pillow to prop you up and I will talk you through the modified waxing positions to make your wax as comfortable as possible. I have waxed hundreds of pregnant clients, so you can rest assured, knowing you’re in good hands.
